Lila Jennings Shepherd, 93, of Edgewater, FL, passed away on June 22, 2013 at the Southeast Volusia Hospice Care Center, in Edgewater, FL. Lila was born March 18, 1920. She was an elementary school teacher for 35 years in Carroll County. She was member of Eastern Star and the First United Methodist Church in Hillsville, VA. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Faye Shepherd, Edgewater, FL; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Shepherd, Jacksonville, FL; son-in-law, Jan Karp, Roswell, GA and a niece and husband, Jane and Kenny Melton, Hillsville, VA; three grandchildren, Stephanie Gregoire, Largo, FL, and Freddie and Greg Shepherd, Jacksonville, FL; and three great-grandchildren. Lila was preceded in death by her husband, Alva (Shorty) Shepherd; son, Fred; daughter; Zara; grandson, Anthony; and her three sisters. Lila's request was a graveside service which will be held on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Jennings Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Hospice Southeast Volusia Care Center, 4140 S. Ridgewood Avenue, Edgewater, FL 32141.
