Lester Hampton Horton, 75, of Greenberry Rd., Fancy Gap, entered his Heavenly Home on August 9, 2016, following a long and courageous battle with COPD and lung cancer. He was born in Carroll County on June 2, 1941, to Floyd Raymond Horton and Sophia Robinson Horton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Horton, Bill Horton and Conard Horton, and a sister Helen Edwards.
Lester was employed at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant for 32 years, retiring from Alliant Techsystems in March 1999. He was a Shift Supervisor in the Nitro Cotton/Purification area. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hillsville. Lester loved the Lord, his family, his dog Molly, gardening and growing plants. He could repair almost anything and enjoyed sharing his talents with others.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Ina Lawson Horton; a daughter Kimberly Goad and fiancé Freddie Quesenberry; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Shaunya Horton; a precious granddaughter, Sophia Catherine Goad and her fiancé Christopher Akers; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Annabelle Horton; two sisters, Ida Bell Webb and Imogene Caviness; sisters-in-law, Adaleen Horton, Ima Horton, Zula Coleman, Marie Kirby and a brother-in-law, Bob Vaughn; his devoted Molly and several nieces and nephews.
To honor Lester's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private inurnment will be in the Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Robert Smith officiating. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Hillsville, P.O. Box 356, Hillsville, VA 24343.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Dan Worrell and staff, Dr. Sudhendu Choubey, Dr. Keith Stephenson and Diane, Dr. Sanjiva Lutchmedial, Dr. Raymond Cruz and Savannah, Twin County Hospice and the caring staff of the Pulaski-Lewis Gale Cancer Center for their excellent care.
Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
