Leoland Edward Henley, 86, of Galax, formerly of Hillsville, passed away at his home on Saturday July 25, 2009. He was born in Coalwood, West Virginia, April 12, 1923 to the late Robert Y. and Betty Hicks Henley. After graduating from Hillsville High School he served in the U.S. Army from January 1943 to November 1945. He was stationed in North Africa, Italy and southern France. After returning home he met and married his wife, Imogene. Edward and his brothers operated the family dairy farm for several years. Later he worked in grocery stores in Hillsville and Wytheville. He was a lifetime member of Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son James Robert Henley and his wife Pat; brother Robert J. Henley and his wife Cloatine; great grandson Benjamin. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Imogene Dalton Henley of the home; son John Edward Henley and his wife Doris of Hillsville; granddaughters Joy Henley of PA, Pam Henley of Mt. Airy, NC; step grandson Joey Lineberry and wife Laura of Dublin; a great granddaughter, two great grandsons, and a step great granddaughter; brother Charles K. Henley and wife Geraldine of Hillsville; brother-in-laws and wives Earl and Lucille Dalton of Sylvatus, Doug and Janie Dalton, Deward Montgomery all of Hillsville; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady-Chapel with the Rev. Ron Kronk officiating. Burial will follow in the Monta Vista Memory Gardens in Galax, with military rites being conducted by Hillsville VFW Post 1115. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 27, 2009 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
