Leo Alphonso Semones passed away on August 13, 2024, at the age of 85, in Casa Grande, AZ. Born on October 21, 1938, Leo spent many years as a dedicated merchant at the Sunnyside Store and as a beef cattle farmer, a career that reflected his deep connection to the community and the land.

A man of faith, Leo supported the Hillsville United Methodist Church. His love for the outdoors was evident in his enthusiasm for sports such as tennis, horseshoes, golf, and fishing. Upon retirement, Leo discovered a passion for billiards and pottery, skills he honed with precision and joy.

Leo's memory is cherished by his loving wife of 66 years, Shirley McGrady Semones, and their four daughters: Julie Gibbs and her husband Kurt, Vicki Vlasic and her husband Rick, Rita Edlein and her husband Sandy, and Sherri Cordle and her husband Dean. He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Norman Semones and his wife Ruby; his sister, Esther Bryant; sister-in-law, Vera Semones; and brother-in-law, Allen Robinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edgar and Alta Semones, his sisters, Elizabeth Smythers, Irleen Largen, Diane Robinson, Christine Patton, and his brother, Orba Semones.

Services to honor Leo's life will be held at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, VA on Saturday, August 24th, 2024. Visitation will be from 12-2pm, followed by the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Alzheimers.org or the Semones Cemetery Fund C/O Kenneth Largen, supporting causes close to Leo's heart.
