Laurie "Ruie" M. Martin Fariss, age 96, passed away peacefully Sunday August 13, 2023, at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows with her daughter and son-in-law by her side.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years Jamie L. Fariss, parents Gilmer and Sena Martin, brother and sister-in-law Clayton and Maude Martin, and sister and brother-in-law Lillian and Rush Bowman.

She is survived by one daughter Jewel Sue Spencer and husband Robert of Meadows of Dan, VA; one step grandson Brian Martin of Richmond, VA; special nieces and nephews; and many special cousins and friends.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows for all of the care, love, and support shown during mother's stay at the facility.  Appreciation is also given to Mountain Valley Hospice for their care during her final few days.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, August 17, 2023, at the Love Cemetery, Kinzer Road (Rt. 650), Hillsville, VA, with Elder Tim McGrady officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Love Cemetery, ℅ Ms. Hattie Mae Love, 206 Orchard Road, Ararat, VA  24053-3598.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
