Obituary

Laura "Carrie" Caroline Buffkin, 30, of Woodlawn, Virginia, passed away suddenly and tragically on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. Carrie was born August 12, 1991, in Martinsville, Virginia, to Halbert "Bud" Buffkin and the late Laura Wingfield Buffkin.

Carrie graduated with honors from Martinsville High School and Patrick Henry Community College of Martinsville before attending Randolph Macon University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Carrie was a vibrant, joyful, loving person who brought light to everyone she touched. She had an incredibly close relationship with both parents, and family time was paramount. A lover of the outdoors, Carrie traveled every summer with her parents to the Twin Rivers Campground, where she enjoyed camping, kayaking, and tubing. She also loved music and was a "Galax Fiddlers' Baby" celebrating her birthday at the Galax Old Fiddler's Convention every year since birth. Many lifelong friendships were made during these precious times. She played the upright Bass, Fiddle, and Dulcimer, and competed in many festivals from a young age. Having first picked up the bells at her hometown church, First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville, she enjoyed playing with and was a member of the New River Bell Ensemble.

A talented painter, Carrie had many other passions including arts and crafts and reading.  She loved sunflowers, the color purple, and her collection of "efelants," but her greatest joy next to being a daughter to Bud and Laura, was her role as godmother to her "Boog," Casen. Carrie was Casen's best friend and he was so important to her being the closest thing to having a child of her own. Casen and Carrie spent countless hours together playing, learning and adventure-seeking.  They had a special bond that was a true blessing.

For the past six years, Carrie was employed at Moog Component Group where she developed many lasting friendships. Carrie's most recent happiness came from the purchase of her first home, something she was very proud of, had dreamed of, and worked very hard for.

Carrie leaves behind her best friend, her daddy, Bud, godchildren Casen Abel "Boog" Price and Emerson Jetti Shaw, best friends Jason Cornett and Jody Testerman, her adored pup, Choulie, along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a heartbroken community of friends that cherished her.

Heaven has gained a true angel as she reunites with her loving momma, who just left us recently.

Fly high Carrie, you left an indelible mark on this Earth and we all will miss you dearly.

Arrangements to celebrate Carrie's life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Carrie's name to Twin Oaks Veterinary Clinic of Sparta, N.C, a place that held a special place in her heart.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help give Bud some relief.  Donations will assist in cremation, burial, and any other financial burdens he is likely to face as a result of this tragedy.  Please share and donate if you can. https://gofund.me/f21c55a9
