On October 9, 2025 Larry Wayne Hess of Woodlawn, VA passed away after a short battle with cancer.  Larry was born October 23, 1945 in Galax, VA.  He was preceded in eternity by his parents Henry Morgan Hess and Nannie Hawks Hess.

He is survived by Joyce, his wife of 60 years, his daughters, Pam (John) Carter of Austinville, VA and Melissa (Mark) Ward of Greenville, SC.  Larry is survived by five grandchildren Adam (Caroline) Carter, Mariah (Landon) Frost, Matt (Alaina) Ward, Micaela Ward and Maggie Ward and three great-grandchildren, Axel Carter, Brance Frost, Hattie Frost and twins soon to arrive.  He is survived by a sister, Anita (Burton) Whittington of Kernersville, NC and step-sister Sue (Dennis) Ward of Hillsville, VA.  He has several nieces and nephews.

Larry spent most of his time outside.  He loved working on his land, camping, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, western books or movies, crossword puzzles and dancing with Joyce.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, October 12, 2025 at 4pm Freedom Baptist Church, 2485 Chances Creek Road, Fancy Gap, VA 24328.  In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to Freedom Baptist Church.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
