Larry Earon
Carico
November 24, 1947 – December 25, 2023
Larry Earon Carico, 76 of Woodlawn, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023. Mr. Carico was born on November 24, 1947 to the late Charles Earon Carico and late Guida Melton Carico. He was also preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sharon Winesett Carico; sister, Roseanna Carico; daughter-in-law, Kathy Carico; and infant grandson, William Russell Gray.
Larry was an avid outdoorsman. He loved spending summer days on the lake or fishing while floating down the New River. Many of his fondest times were spent camping with his family, trout fishing, and on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. His children and grandchildren were his greatest accomplishments and was known to them as "Poppy". He enjoyed going out to eat with Shonda, riding four-wheelers with Justin, listening to Sydney sing, cheering Paisley on to gold medals at gymnastics meets and watching Sawyer play soccer and Hunter play football and basketball. He was a lifelong Virginia Tech Hokie and during football season could often be found in Lane Stadium. Larry retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant and was a United States Army veteran of Vietnam.
Left to cherish his memory are son, Larry Delane and fiancé, Kelly Wetter of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Kerri Carico Gray and Dr. Anthony Gray of Piney Flats, TN; son, Keith Smythers of Galax, VA; grandchildren, Shonda Carico, Justin Carico and fiancé, Chelsey Snavely, Sydney Gray, Paisley Gray, Sawyer Gray, Hunter Gray, Dylan Smythers and wife, Shayla, and Beth Smythers; uncle, Rupert Melton; three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank Angela and Kim at Fresenius Kidney Care, Blue Ridge Home Health, Mountain Valley Hospice and the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the excellent care and assistance they provided for our Poppy.
