Our dear husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, L Roland "Ron" Doerschug, died suddenly at home on Sept 9 at age 86, after a six-year stroke recovery. Alfred University administrator, volunteer fireman, and sometimes computer instructor, Ron enjoyed any puzzle, whether associated with a building, card game, or computer.

After spending his youth in northern New Jersey, where he met the love of his life and wife of 62 years, his interest in heavy machinery led him to pursue a BA at Cornell and MS at U of Arkansas and to serve our country at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland.

Leaving his 29-year home in Alfred, New York as retirees, Ron and Linda lived for a time in the Columbus, OH, area and traveled widely with motorhome clubs. Fancy Gap was a fitting final home for this friendly rural community enthusiast and lifelong Presbyterian.

Ron is missed by his wife, Linda, sister Gretchen Tucker, son David, daughter Susan Ashley Thomas, and six grandchildren. As a remembrance, please give to the Hillsville Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at the Hillsville Presbyterian Church at 1:30 PM with Pastor Rebecca Taylor officiating.  The family will receive friends after the service.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
