***COURTESY ANNOUNCEMENT***
Ima (Kaye) Collier Tickle passed away on September 19, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina, at the age of 78.
She was born in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, on June 24, 1948. Kaye resided in Virginia most of her life, where she was known for her devotion to family, funny, generous, and selfless nature, and hard working, detail-oriented precision in everything she did.
Kaye was preceded in death by her grandparents, including the “two Georges,” George Cleveland and George Linville, whom Kaye credits for “any sense of humor, twinkle in the eye, and cunning old-fashioned ‘horse trading’,” and grandmothers Georgia Burnette and Mamie Collier; her mother and father, Anna Louise and George Marshall Collier; and her husband, Richard Daniel Tickle of Dublin, Virginia.
Kaye is survived by her siblings, Marsha Davidson (Jim), Georgia Brinkman (Norm), Gary Collier (Alice), and James (Jimmy) Collier (Mary Ellen); her two children, Ashli Quesinberry Stokes (Jeff), Charlotte, North Carolina and Neal Bryan Quesinberry, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She leaves behind two adored grandchildren, Katherine (Kate) Collier Stokes and Charles (Charlie) Samuel Stokes, alongside Danny’s grandchildren and her many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A master communicator with excellent computational skills, Kaye began her career with Appalachian Power Company in Roanoke, Virginia; continued as a bookkeeper for Western Auto in Hillsville, Virginia; and kept many coaches and athletes organized and in good standing (and good humor) at her beloved Virginia Tech, where she worked in the Athletic Department until retirement.
As Kaye writes, she was blessed with a good life and childhood filled with many cousins, love, and laughter. She notes she was also “blessed with a wonderful, (but “crazy”) Collier Burnette family, the very best of friends (albeit “mostly crazy”),” and especially enjoyed love and laughter with the mid-60s Hillsville High School gang. She writes how the birth of her children, and later, her cherished grandchildren, brought a “complete and total explosion of the heart, coupled with unspeakable love, pride, and joy.” She deeply cherished her time with Danny, his children, and good times filled with love and laughter with their grandchildren, the “fab six:” Daniel, Sydney, Dean, Issac, Ashlyn, and Lauren.
She wants everyone to know that she “has left this world with a humble, grateful, and thankful heart for family and friends,” and expresses “many, many, thanks for all the love, the smiles, and the
laughter. May God Bless.”
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hillsville High School on Nov. 27th. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bluemont Presbyterian Church, where she and Danny were members. Any condolences to the family may be sent to 4011 Chevington Road, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28226.
The Tickle family have entrusted arrangements to Cremation Society of Charlotte.
