Obituary

Katherine Alene Cox Burnett, 89 of Dugspur, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Waddell Nursing Home. Katherine was born on September 27, 1919 in Coal Wood, West Virginia to the late Hamilton and Doan Harmon Cox. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Charles Rush Burnett; a brother, Avis H. Cox; son-in-law, Harry Clinton Quesenberry. She is survived by a daughter Mary Katherine Quesenberry, Dugspur.

Katherine was always a business person, had a milk route at the age of 10. She married at 16 and moved to Carroll County, becoming 4th generation on the family farm. She and Rush ran a dairy for 33 years then beef. For many years she taught Bible School and the Junior Sunday School Class at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was a life long member. Katherine loved to read, play the piano and work with the young people.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with the Rev. Elmon Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Cox Cemetery. Mrs. Burnetts family will receive friends on Saturday, July 25 beginning at 9:00 AM until service time. Family ask in lieu of flowers and food donations may be made to the Cox Cemetery, P.O. Box 11, Dugspur, Va. 24325 or to Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church Awana program, 44 Hunters Ridge Road Dugspur, Virginia 24325.
