Kate Branscomb Allen, 97 of Radford, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2005 at Kroontje Health Care Center in Blacksburg. She was the oldest daughter born to Diannah Hill Branscomb and Edmond Branscomb of Hillsville. Her husband of 52 years, Troy J. Allen, passed away in 1978. Also preceding her in death was a granddaughter, Darlene Havemann Hitchcock.
Mrs. Allen is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Howlett and husband Oshiar of Radford, Annita Havemann and Husband, Russ of Anaheim, CA and Lucille Cruise and husband, Bob of Christiansburg. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, David Howlett and wife, Robin of Raleigh, NC; Terry Howlett and wife, Nina of Tyler, TX; Russell Havemann and wife Judy of Brea, CA; Diana Havemann Howard and husband, Gene of Irvine, CA; Kathy Havemann Cooper and Husband, David of Somis, CA; Jill Cruise Carolan and husband, Paul of Ft. Worth, TX; Mark Cruise and wife, Evelyn of Sandy Hook, VA; Scott Cruise and wife Martine of Fairfax, VA and Jan Cruise McKee and husband Gene of Altus AFB, OK. Mrs. Allen was also blessed with 20 great grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Delta Bolen of Hillsville. Other family members now deceased are sisters; Ada Hundley (Elbert) and Ruth Farmer (Horace) and brothers Otto (Blanche), Arthur (Vivian), and Robert Branscomb (Louise).
Mrs. Allen, along with her husband, owned and managed several rental properties in Radford, VA. She loved visits from her children and grandchildren and leaves behind a legacy of wonderful memories treasured by her family.
Mrs. Allens life will be celebrated as the family receives friends and relatives beginning at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 P.M. at the chapel and will be conducted by Dr. Paul Lane of Radford and Rev. Olen Gardner of Riner. Interment will follow at Good Hope Cemetery in Fancy Gap. The land for Good Hope Primitive Baptist Church, School, and Cemetery was donated by Mrs. Allens grandfather. The family appreciates the warm care and support of the staff of Kroontje Heath Care Center at Warm Health Village in Blacksburg, VA.
