June Ward Akers, 75 of Hillsville, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Akers was born in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Walter Clarence and Lola Ivalene Amburn Ward. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Howard Akers; son, William Phipps; sister, Barbara Shepherd; and grandson, Michael Hudson.

Survivors include her children, Tommy Everhart (Tina), Shannon Phipps, Sandi Brinegar (Glenn), and Debbie Gravley (Jimmy); brother, Carroll Ward (Nancy); sixteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11:00 AM with David Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. The family will receive friends the same day from 10:00 until 11:00 prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
