Johnny Russell Kidd, 78, left this earth to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 17, 2009. He was born on October 1, 1930 in Pulaski, VA to Okie B. and Eunice Kidd. After serving in the Korean War with the Marine Corps, he returned to Pulaski. Johnny married Lois Jean Harrell on May 31, 1952. He was employed for forty years by Appalachian Power Co. and retired in 1992. Johnny was very active in the community as a member of the Rotary Club, V.F.W. Post 1115, and the First United Methodist Church of Hillsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jo Ann Blanks of Ridgeway, VA; and brother Jack Kidd of Virginia Beach, VA. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois Jean Harrell Kidd; children and spouse Karen Kidd of Collinsville, VA, and Mark & Becky Kidd of Suffolk, VA; grandchildren Corey Duncan of Suffolk and Jenna Duncan of Norfolk, VA; one great grandson Conner Duncan of Suffolk, VA; brother Bill Kidd of Richmond, VA; sister & brother-in-law Nancy & Bruce Schrader of Petersburg, WV; and many nieces, nephews, and loving family members.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Hillsville, with Rev. Ty Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin, VA. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 18, 2009 from 6 to 8 PM at the church. Military Rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Carroll County Food Pantry, the First United Methodist Church of Hillsville, 225 Fulcher St., Hillsville, VA; or Twin County Hospice, 308 S. Main St, Galax, VA.
