Johnny Carson Hurst., 65, of Hillsville passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023 at his home.

Johnny was born April 20, 1957 to the late Clive V. Hurst and Norma A. Hall Hurst in Carroll County, Virginia.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Charles G. Smythers.

Johnny is survived by his wife of 31 years, Susan (Sue) Hurst; sister Shelby Hurst Smythers; and brother and sister-in-law Lewis Clive Hurst and Linda. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Johnny is also survived by his loving pets, Scooby, Reed, Penny and Sammy.

He retired after 32 years with the Virginia Department of Transportation that resulted in many lifelong friendships.  After retirement, Johnny continued his career with several contracting companies.

Johnny was a sports enthusiast and avid fan of Virginia Tech and the Minnesota Vikings.

A memorial service will be held Sunday January 8, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Dina Clower and Craig Smythers officiating.
