John M. Turner, 82, of Galax, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 22, 2010 at his home. Mr. Turner was born in Carroll County to the late Howard & Della Turner. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Icie B. Turner and brothers James and Robert Turner. He is survived by his daughter Shelia Y. Turner of Knoxville, TN; brothers Archie & Edith Turner of North Carolina and Harold & Mary Turner of Virginia; sister Linnie & Dan Pace of Virginia; and granddaughters Danielle N. Tupper and Stephanie Y. Hicks of Tennessee.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Galax with Dr. Winford Hendrix officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in the Turner-Duncan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Galax Building Fund 1024 East Stuart Drive Galax, VA 24333 or the charity of your choice.
