John A. Staples, 78 of Laurel Fork, passed away on Friday October 31, 2008 at Twin County Regional Hospital. Mr. Staples was an Army veteran. He is survived by his wife Winnie Gay Dalton Staples of the home; son Walter Staples, Keller, TX; daughter Mary Menicuth, CA; step children Teresa Parnell; Martin Rector; Sharon Vaughn; Ricky Rector; brother Glenn Staples, Dallas, TX; sisters Mildred Hodges, Eden, NC; Polly Martin, Rocky Mt., NC; Lorene Parker, Climax, NC; several grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.

Graveside services and burial will be held on Sunday November 2, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Unity Church Cemetery in Patrick County, VA. With Pastor Harvey Carico officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Sharon Vaughn on Stone Ridge Road in the Laurel Community. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
