Quesenberry, Sr.
January 19, 1928 – July 13, 2009
Today we celebrate the going home of our dear husband, daddy, father-in-law, grandpa, great-grandpa, great-great grandpa, uncle, brother-in-law and friend.
John Claude Quesenberry, Sr. passed away on July 13, 2009 at Laurel Meadows, where he made his home for the past 6 years. He was born in Carroll County, to Wiley Ennis & Minnie Alma Worrell Quesenberry on January 19, 1928.
He was a Veteran of World War II, a past chaplain of Grover King V.F.W. Post 1115 in Hillsville, he pastored several churches in the area of Carroll County, VA and Surry County, NC, and was a retired truck driver.
John is survived by his loving wife of almost 64 years on July 30, 1945, Inez Hull Quesenberry of Laurel Meadows Nursing Home, Laurel Fork, VA; three daughters & sons-in-law, Merietta & Larry Lambert of Dayton, VA, Linda & Gene Smith of Lambsburg, VA and Regina & Rusty Baber of Crimora, VA; three sons & daughters-in-law Henry & Wanda Quesenberry of Harrisonburg, VA, Odell & Soo Yun Quesenberry of Fancy Gap, VA and John Jr. (J.C.) & Sharon Quesenberry of Linville, VA; ten granddaughters, Melody Brintle, Denise Blakeley, Melissa Sherman, Tina Estep, Karyn Collins, Angela Bryant, Kelli Sprague, Christy Huffman, Beth Lambert, and Brittany Davis; nine grandsons, who will serve as pallbearers, Jeffrey May, Carlin Quesenberry, Jason Quesenberry, Jody Quesenberry, Jared Quesenberry, Kevin Quesenberry, Mark Lambert, Codi Quesenberry and Devin Smith; 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are the spouses of his grandchildren, his caregivers at Laurel Meadows Nursing Home, his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Bonnie Alease Quesenberry, a grandson Dale Hess, two sons-in-law, Dennis Hess and Mick May, two brothers, Jackson and Shirley Quesenberry and one sister, Irene Ayers.
The family will meet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with a Memorial Service immediately following on Friday, July 17, 2009 conducted by his son Rev. Odell Quesenberry and Rev. S.G. Bolt. Interment will follow at the Horton Family Cemetery with graveside services held by his grandson-in-law Lane Bryant and full Military Rites by Grover King V.F.W. Post 1115 of Hillsville. Instead of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Horton Family Cemetery, c/o William E. Horton, 310 South Main Street, Hillsville, 24343 or Laurel Meadows Resident Aid, 16600 Danville Pike, Laurel Fork, VA 24352.
