Obituary

John Henry Piccot passed away peacefully at his home on Good Friday, April 2nd, 2010. His final days were spent surrounded day and night by his many friends and family members at his home in Dublin, Virginia.

John was born in New York City in 1948 and was the son of Helen Louise Piccot and Arthur Robert Piccot, both whom are with him in heaven now. He is survived by two family members: Stephen Piccot of Durham, North Carolina (brother) and his wife Cathy and Mary Van Horn of Fallbrook, California (sister) and her husband Kevin. He is also survived by the many caregivers and friends he came to love and rely upon in Dublin, Virginia and the Mount Rogers region of Southern Virginia.

John was raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he saw the startling beauty of the great northwestern United States, and where he spent time with his father hunting and fishing in the Snake River region. He moved to California with his family in the late 1950s, where he graduated from high school, attended college, and experienced the rapid growth of the Los Angeles metropolitan area from a town on the western edge of the city (Woodland Hills, California). John moved to Southern Virginia in the late 1980s to be near his parents in Hillsville, Virginia, and his brother, nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law in Durham, North Carolina.

Those that knew John came to understand that he was among the most kind, gentle, and generous, men they would ever come to know, and that he consistently met his challenges with great strength and unusual determination. Johns presence and influence will be missed and have left a void that no others can fill. His influence and warm heart are sure to leave lasting impacts on our world.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 12:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Father Charles Brickner officiating. Burial will follow in Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 11:00 AM and lasting until service time. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
