John Cordell Nester, 52 of Mechanicsville and formerly of Fancy Gap, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021 at his home. Mr. Nester was born in Mount Airy, NC to Robert Lloyd Nester and Mary Quesinberry Nester. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Lyndon Largen.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa Nester; mother, Mary Smith; son, Christopher Nester; stepsons, Dallas Browning and Thomas Armstrong; stepdaughters, Melody, Sabrina and Shelby; and several step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Mountain Plains United Methodist Church with Pastor Danielle Goad officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain Plains Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Saturday, September 4, 2021 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
