John H. McLaughlin was born August 9, 1926, and went home to be with the Lord on April 3, 2013 at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax. Born in Barre, Vermont to George and Cecelia McLaughlin, he was educated in Barre City Schools, served in the Air Force during the Korean War, and was a retired Granite Sawyer from Consolidated Memorial in 1989. Mr. McLaughlin was a long-time member of the Church of God of Prophecy, and was an ordained Deacon. A resident of Middlesex Vermont for 48 years, he retired to Woodlawn, Virginia where he and his wife have resided for the past 11 years. Jack' was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors, taking care of his lawn, and dearly loved his family. He was preceded in death by brothers, Harold, Joe, Guy, George and Paul McLaughlin, and sisters, Millie Howlett, Florence Marston, and Medora Fox. Surviving are his wife Alice, of the home; son, George (Sandra) of Winston Salem, NC; daughter Mary (Rogers) of Woodlawn; sisters, Wilma Corte of Barre, Vermont, and Mona Booe of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren, Erin and Alexandria McLaughlin, Wendy Rivera (Marty); great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Joey and Brianna Rivera; and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor Titus Anderson, Bishop Keith Russell, and Bishop David F. Risch officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. Burial will be in Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 5, 2013 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
