John Edward Hayes, 86 of Laurel Fork, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Northern Surry Hospital.  John was born August 8, 1937 at Buckeye Lake, Ohio to the late John W. and Doris Hayes. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Marley Nicole Hayes.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Betty Jean Spencer Hayes; daughters, Debbie Hayes Sexton and Janie Allen and husband, Gray; son, Ricky Hayes; grandsons, Joshua Hayes, Luke Hayes, and Jesse Allen; great-grandchildren, Jaydence Hayes and Jayna Hayes; brother, Bill Hayes; and sister, Shirley Scott.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023 at Gospel Chapel Church in Laurel Fork at 6:00 PM with Pastor Stephen Puckett officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 5:00 until 6:00 PM prior to the memorial service.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
