John Hagy Coalson, age 42, of Hillsville, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 30, 2021. John was born in Mt. Airy, NC on January 24, 1979 to the late Lula Ann Hagy Coalson and Buford Coalson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Patrick and Ella Logan; Richard Carroll Clark, Sr.; and Brady and Katherine Coalson.

John is survived by his four children, Ty, Mason, Evan, and Ella Coalson of Hillsville; brother, Patrick Clark and wife, Melissa of Raleigh, NC; nephew and niece, Logan and Leighton Clark of Raleigh, NC; special parents, Rick and Susan Clark of Hillsville, who raised him as their son after the death of his mother; grandmother, Dolores Clark of Cana; aunt and uncle, Robin and Charles Smith of Mocksville, NC; cousin, Charlotte Smith of Jacksonville, FL; and many friends.

John achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a graduate of Carroll County High School and spent lots of time in his workshop building and creating special projects for those he loved; however, there is nothing he could love more than his four wonderful children who will miss him.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Hillsville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Laura Plaster. Burial will follow in North End Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Coalson Children Education Fund through any BB&T branch. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
