Joseph H. McGrady
April 30, 1947 – November 18, 2022
"The People's Lawyer"
Joe McGrady (75) of Hillsville, Virginia passed away peacefully on November 18 th from an underlying heart issue. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Helen McGrady and his beloved dog Sandy. Joe is survived by his wife Anne McGrady; son Jonathan McGrady and daughter-in-law Jennifer McGrady of Hillsville, Virginia; son Chad McGrady of Glade Park, Colorado; grandchildren Molly McGrady, Jon McGrady, Sam McGrady, and Alex McGrady.
Joe graduated from Hillsville High School in 1965, Virginia Tech in 1969, and University of Tennessee Law School in 1971.
Joe "hung his law shingle" in 1973. During the course of49 years as a trial lawyer, Joe took great pride in representing ordinary people. He loved the great outdoors and his Virginia Tech Hokies. Joe enjoyed teaching his sons how to hunt, fish, canoe, and the virtues of law and politics.
Joe was a member of Hillsville Masonic Lodge 193 since 1969, a proud Shriner and former Kazim Shrine Band Member. He served on various boards and was always eager to assist or donate to numerous charitable causes. Joe was a member of Hillsville Christian Church for over 50 years and was a Church Trustee.
A graveside service with Masonic Rites will take place on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the John Patterson Webb Family Cemetery on US 58, 3 miles east of Hillsville. We are mindful that Joe would want his life celebrated and not mourned. Thus, following the graveside service, a Celebration of Life Party will occur on the McGrady family farm, Greenbriar Ridge, where Joe would park most evenings to watch the sunset. Suggested dress options are: Virginia Tech Hokie Attire or Beach Music Attire.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shriner's Children's Hospital are appreciated.
