JoAnn Nester Hawks, 61 of Cana, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2008 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Hawks was born in Carroll County to the late Elbridge & Clara Bell Nester. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her grandson Clint Shelton, and great granddaughter Hailey Hawks. She is survived by her husband Haywood Hawks; daughters & sons-in-law Donna & Mark Shelton of Mount Airy, NC, Stacey & John Powell of Lebanon, OH, and April Wright of Cana; sons & daughters-in-law Gary Wayne & Gina Hawks of Woodlawn, Jeffrey & Melissa Hawks of Cana, Danny Ray & Wanda Hawks of King, NC and Edward Hawks of Cana; brothers & sisters-in-law Norman & Reva Nester of Hillsville and Roy & Cindy Nester of Galax; sisters & brother-in-law Joyce Marie & James Turman of Hillsville and Brenda Liddle of Woodlawn; special friends close to her heart Rector, Linda and Shannon Cagle, April Williamson and Ethel Rogers; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at 4:00 PM at the Fancy Gap Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Zane Fishel officiating. Burial will follow in the Fancy Gap Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Mrs. Hawks residence at 3016 Pauls Creek Road, Cana, VA 24317 on Saturday, April 12, 2008 from 6:00 until 9:00 PM and at the church on Sunday from 3:00 until 4:00 PM prior to the funeral service.
