Jesse McKay Newman, 88, of Dugspur passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Twin County Regional Hospital. Mr. Newman was a World War II Veteran, a life-long beef farmer and served a term on the Carroll County board of Supervisors for the Pine Creek District  He was born in Carroll County on January 7, 1928, to the late Benjamin Rush and Nannie Marshall Newman.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Vernon Newman, Maury Newman, and Mason Newman; and sisters, Missouri Anderson and his twin, Effie Hull.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Jo Lynn Newman of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, B.R. and Dari Newman, and Warren and Sheila Newman; daughter and son-in-law, Myra and Duane Leonard, all of Dugspur; sister, Polly Gilbert of Front Royal, VA; and four granddaughters, Baily Leonard, Suzanne Leonard, Makayla Newman, and Katlyn Newman.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Pastor Brent Carrick, Elder Richard Gillespie and Elder Ronnie Mills officiating.  Burial will follow in the Newman-Burnett Cemetery in Dugspur. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Grover King Post 1115.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to solehope.org or mailed to Sole Hope, 605 East Innes Street, #3263, Salisbury, NC 28144.
