Jerry Lee Tennant , 70 of Hillsville, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at his home. Mr. Tennant was born in Ray, Ohio to the late Raymond B. and Janelle Newport Tennant.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn A. Tennant; son, Nicholas J. Tennant and spouse, Andrea Campbell; step-daughter, Heather Lucas and spouse, Jamie Lucas; step-son, Daniel Carter and spouse, Angela Carter; sister, Sherry Hassler and nieces, Kelly Finn and Tracy Whitehead; grandchildren, Zoe Tennant, Xavier Tennant, Dalton Triplett, Sadie Lucas, and Leslie Holston; and great grandchild, Cassidy Bradley.
Jerry graduated from Jackson County High School in Jackson Ohio. He was a disabled Vietnam Veteran, beginning his Army career in 1966, completing his basic training in Ft. Gordon, GA and AIT at Ft. Sam Houston, TX. Additionally, he took jungle training at Ft. Bliss, TX. He was deployed to Vietnam in August of that year and served as a medic with the 87th Engineer Battalion. During his few days 'in country' he was with the 90th Replacement Battalion.
Jerry earned a number of decorations during his military service in Vietnam. These included a Vietnam Service medal, a Vietnam Campaign medal with device 60, two letters of appreciation, a Certificate of Achievement, and an Expert Badge (M14 rifle). He lived in Hillsville, Virginia for the last 7 years enjoying a peaceful retirement.
