Obituary

J.C. "Bill" Hendrix, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2013, at his home in Allisonia, VA. He was born on April 29, 1927, in Farmington, NC. J.C. is fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and caring friend. J.C. was drafted into the Army near the end of WWII and was stationed in Central America while guarding the Panama Canal and serving watch over POWs. After his military service, he returned to work with his father as a home builder and built over 100 unique homes during his career. J.C. was an outdoorsman and his love of the Blue Ridge Mountains brought him to VA in 1972 where he showed a natural gift for land development and log home building. He was a talented horseman and operated full-service horse farms in VA and NC. He cherished his racehorse, Suburbia (by Derby winner, Swaps) and palomino stallion, Stampede. J.C. is responsible for bringing some of the finest American Quarter Horses to the East Coast. He owned the B-Bar-B Ranch and Clemmons Western Store, was a member of the Clemmons Baptist Church, and served as Constable for the town of Clemmons. He was a man of faith and enjoyed teaching Sunday school classes as well as volunteering as a Scoutmaster. J.C. was preceded in death by his parents, Ora and John Carl Hendrix, and brother Bob "Fonzie" Hendrix. Surviving is his loving wife of 38 years, Susan Hendrix; son Randy Hendrix of Winston Salem, NC; daughter Lisa Mastin and husband Robert of Mocksville, NC; son Justin Hendrix and wife Jennifer of Fairlawn, VA; grandson Evan Hendrix; granddaughter Jacey Hendrix; sisters Dorothy Beauchamp and husband Jay, and Mary Ruth Wilhelm and husband Jimmy. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, VA with Dennis Trail officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1-2 p.m at the Chapel. Burial will follow the funeral service at Coulson Church Cemetery. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association (heart.org) in lieu of flowers. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
