James Virgil Sutphin, 75, of Hillsville passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012 at his home. He was preceded in death by his; step father, Henry Lee Lawson; mother, Masie Sutphin Lawson; brother Everett I. Sutphin; sisters, Elda Campbell, and Nellie Suits. He is survived by his wife Nellie Frances Sutphin of the home; two brothers and sister-in-law, Malcomb Nester of Barren Springs, and Gary L. and Joan Lawson of Max Meadows; four sisters and brothers-in-laws, Glenna N. and Ernest Vaughn of Hillsville, Lona I. and Sanford Davis of Max Meadows, Dovey L. Davis of Max Meadows, and Kathy J. and James Lovern of Barren Springs; ten step children; special friend Cameron Beck; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 7:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Carl Forrester officiating. Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Shiloh Cemetery at Claytor Lake. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 from 5:00 PM until time of the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
