James David Spraker, 68, of Austinville, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Irene Spraker; brother in-law, Giles Surratt; son in-law, Tony Nance. Mr. Spraker was a Member of Shorts Creek Church of God, and a graduate of Hillsville High School. He was employed by Government Quality Assurance Company Babcock and Wilcox. He was in the Army Reserves in 1964. He is survived by his wife, Paulette Spraker of the home; three children, Robin L. Spraker of Austinville, Teresa D. Nance of Burlington, NC, and David C. Spraker of Burlington, NC; grandchildren, Stacey L. Stevens, Taylor N. Nance, and Brooke L. Nance; siblings, Carlin Ray and Clara Spraker of Austinville, VA, Jewel F. Surratt of Radford, VA, Rollin Wayne and Judy Spraker of Pulaski, VA, and Charles Clayton and Patricia Ann Spraker of Max Meadows. Many other special family and friends also survive. Funeral service will be Saturday, December 24, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Shorts Creek Church of God with Rev. James Witten officiating. Burial will follow in the Myers Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. The family will receive friends at Shorts Creek Church of God on Friday, December 23, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
