James Orba Semones, 89, of Hillsville passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. He was preceded in death by his father, James Edgar Semones; mother, Alta Quesenberry Semones; sisters, Diane Robinson, Elizabeth Smythers, and Christine Patton.

He was one of the longtime owners and operators of Sunny Side Store, Inc. and a lifetime cattle farmer.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years Vera Matthews Semones of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Anita Semones of Hillsville; granddaughter, Madison Semones; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Norman and Ruby Semones of Fancy Gap, and Leo and Shirley Semones of Hillsville, sisters and brother-in-law, Irleen Largen of Hillsville, and Esther and Harley Bryant of Hillsville; sister-in-law, Wilma Matthews; brothers-in-law, Roger Amburn, and Allen Robinson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Pastor Wendell Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the Semones Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Semones Cemetery in care of Kenneth Largen 2962 Fancy Gap Highway, Hillsville, VA 24343. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the Semones family.
