James Thurmond Potts, 82 of Cana, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Skyline Nursing Home in Floyd.  Mr. Potts was born in Surry County, NC to the late Chrisey and Mamie Jane Upchurch Potts.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Thurmond Potts; one brother, and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Potts; children, Pamela Potts, Teresa Ann Larue, and Timothy Dwayne Potts; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; eight sisters; six brothers; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Skyline Nursing Home C-Wing for the special care that was given to Thurmond.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor Brian Frazier and Pastor Jeff Pickett officiating.  Burial will follow in the Love Cemetery on Kinzer Road in Hillsville.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
