Obituary

James Monroe Flippen, 80, of Fancy Gap, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2012. Mr. Flippen was born in Surry County, NC to the late Grover Lee and Edna Pearl Edwards Flippen. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Annie Ruth Flippen and a grandson, T.J. Flippen. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and LeRoy Gardner of Woodlawn; sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Betty Flippen of Galax and Richard and Kim Flippen of Rural Retreat; brothers and sister-in-law, Ray Flippen and Harold and Edith Flippen all of Mount Airy, NC; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Roger Cook of Dobson, NC; grandchildren, Sue, Mindy, Hunter, Jeff, Amy, Jamie, and Misty; several great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. Eddie Bailey and Rev. Woody Flippen officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Ridge Cemetery in North Carolina. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family
