James Edward (Jim) Combs, 68 of Hillsville, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mr. Combs was born in Roanoke, Virginia to the late Edgar and Hazel Lowe Combs. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Combs of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Scarlett and Keith McKenzie of Fancy Gap; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Julie Combs of Hillsville; grandsons, Parker Combs and Michael Combs; sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Moe Davis of Galax; and several special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11:00 AM with Rev. David Moore and Rev. Charles Bunn officiating. Burial will follow in the Independence Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 20, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Flowers would be appreciated; however, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's honor to Blue Ridge Chapel Baptist Church 1559 Max Lane, Galax, VA 24333. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
