James Douglas (Doug) Sutphin, 74 of Galax, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at his home. Mr. Sutphin was born in Carroll County, VA to the late Dorsey Howard and Eula Goad Sutphin.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Sutphin of the home; children and spouses, Brandon and Cindy Alderman of Hillsville, Monica and Greg Cornett of Elk Creek, Jason and Lori Sutphin of Black Mountain, NC and Jill Sharpe of Hillsville; two very special grandchildren, Sarah Alderman (his sunshine) and Brad Alderman (his boss); seven grandchildren, Anna, Aylah, Ashtyn, Colin, Carsyn, Phillip and Connor; sister, Rhonda Childress of King, NC; father-in-law, Lee Mabe; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law and spouses, Eric and Lisa Mabe, Miles Mabe, and Sheila and Mike Pena; special brother, Jimmy Kemp; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor Harold Boyd and Pastor Wendell Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the Beasley Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
