James Monroe
Curry, Sr.
November 5, 1937 – August 20, 2025
It is with deep love and gratitude that we celebrate the life of James Monroe Curry Sr, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and servant of God and others, who passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025 at the age of 87. James is preceded in death by his bride of 65 years Susan (Sheppard) Curry, his parents Ance and Olive Curry, and 3 brothers, Ted, Mark and David Curry.
James lived his life with a steadfast heart and a generous spirit. A proud Veteran of the United States Navy, he dedicated his early years to serving his country with honor. His calling to serve did not end there-he went on to minister as a preacher, faithfully sharing God's word and guiding others in faith and love. His compassion reached countless lives through his work at the Good Shepherd Food Panty where he, along with his late wife Susan, poured their time into feeding the hungry and caring for the most vulnerable in their community.
Family was the center of his world, he is beloved and lived on by his children, James M. Curry, Jr., Sharon Horvath (Edward), Eula Simmons (Sam), and Wayne Curry (Amanda); siblings, Ance Curry, Jr. (Polly), Lahomma Cassidy, Wonda Pinkerton, Bertha Stacy, and Carol Vern Blackburn; grandchildren, Hannah, Samantha, Joshua, Josef, Melissa, Roby, Becky, Sarah, Jonathan, Kayla, and Benjamim; step-grandchildren, Sara, Lela and Amber; several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
James's legacy is one of selflessness, faith, and love. He will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, his service to others and the way his eyes lit up when surrounded by family. His life was a living testimony to what it means to give generously and love deeply.
A service to honor James will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jerry Copley officiating. Burial will follow in Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM with a service at 11am. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
