Survivors include his wife, Barbara Chappell of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Patrick Hughes of Hillsville; son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Tammy Chappell of Galax; special nieces and nephews, Melinda Taylor of Galax, Michelle Diamond of Galax, Michael Chappell of Hillsville; special step-grandson, Curtis Hill of Galax; four step-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Richard Wilmouth and Howard Wilmouth both of Galax; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks is expressed to the Hancock Family and the Shaw Family.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor Casey McKenna officiating. Burial will follow in the Worrell Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, March 26, 2018 from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
