Obituary

J. Harold (Dad) Greene, 94 of Laurel Fork, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2010 at his home. Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Abram & Rose Griffin Greene, Mr. Greene was a retired letter carrier and laundromat operator. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by brothers Wilbur Greene and Fredrick Greene; sisters Gertrude Campbell & husband Mac, Dorothy Greene, and Loretta Greene; and son-in-law Ronald Theurer. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Iona Hubble Greene of the home; daughter Amy Virginia Theurer of Laurel Fork; sons & daughters-in-law Joseph Victor (Jay) & Amy Greene of Virginia Beach and William (Lee) & Wipaphun (Noi) Greene of Niceville, FL; eleven grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.

Mr. Greene was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, the V.F.W. and NALC. He was also a member of the Pulaski Moose Lodge and an Honorary Member of every club in the world. He never met a stranger; there were only friends he hadnt met yet. He served in China Burma India during World War II and also served in many areas during the Korean Conflict. During his military career with the Air Force he earned a Distinguished Flying Cross, a Bronze Star and an Air Medal with two clusters.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 5:00 PM at St. Josephs Catholic Church with Father Charles Brickner officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Fork Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Sunday, June 20, 2010 from 1:00 until 3:00 PM.
