Irene Jane Culler Hiatt, 94, of Lexington, SC formally of Laurel Fork, Virginia, passed peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, September 23, 2021. Mrs. Hiatt was born on January 10, 1927 to Sam and Edna Culler of Laurel Fork, Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Samuel G. Hiatt; three children, Anita Hiatt, Loretta Stricker, and Conley Hiatt; several brothers and sisters; Stella May Hiatt, Evolenne Walters, Lewis Culler, Moir Culler, Warren Culler, and James Culler; and one great-granddaughter, Mirenda Cates.
Survivors include one daughter, Janice Hull and husband, Douglas; seven grandchildren, Renee McGrady, Susan Turner, Jason Stricker, Jeffery Stricker, Phillip Hiatt, Misty Hiatt, and Christy Hiatt; nine great-grandchildren, Delaney McGrady, Nathaniel Turner, IV, Savannah Turner, Alden Stricker, Thomas Stricker, William Stricker, Ryan Hiatt; two step-great-grandchildren, Haley and William Martin; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hiatt was an employee of Sprague Electric, from which she retired. Several years ago, she moved to Lexington to live with Jan and Doug and be close to the greenhouses and her beloved flowers. Thru all her illnesses she remained a kind and loving person, always enjoying nature and beauty.
Funeral services will be held at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, Virginia on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Nathan Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in the Rome Cemetery 925 Rome Drive, Hillsville, VA 24343. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rome Baptist Church Cemetery c/o Noel Turner 925 Rome Drive, Hillsville, VA 24343. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is assisting the family.
