Bowman
August 8, 1926 – February 12, 2023
Rebecca Inez Cloud Bowman, 96, of Hillsville, Virginia, passed away on February 12, 2023. She was born on August 8, 1926, to Preston Cornett Cloud and Nettie Green Sowers Cloud. In addition to her parents, Inez was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James Carlisle Bowman, by her son, Frederick Bowman, and by her siblings, Kermit Cloud, Mason Cloud, Irilee Cloud, Rufus Cloud and Ruby Culler.
Left to cherish Inez's memory are her children, Joseph M. Bowman and wife, Amy, Timothy J. Bowman and wife, Tami, and Anita B. Semones and husband, Jason. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Katherine Scott, Serena Banks, Joseph Bowman, Sarah Bowman, and Madison Horton and eight great-grandchildren.
Education was always important to Inez. She graduated as valedictorian of her Hillsville High School class and was a teacher at several neighborhood schools. She was dedicated to her family and was a leader in her community with activities for young people, Gladesboro PTA, cub scouts, and many youth activities at Rome Baptist Church. She was employed for several years as a teacher's aide and was then the cafeteria manager at Gladesboro Elementary until retirement. Inez was also an accomplished crafter and seamstress. Friends and relatives still enjoy the many beautiful quilts and other crafts that she lovingly made.
The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows for the care given to Inez during her stay and would also like extend a special thank you to Teresa Cloud, niece and Tracy Payne, great-niece, for their countless hours of dedication to her health and well-being over the last six years.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastors Sandy Hendrick and Ed Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in the Rome Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the activities department at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows attn: Laurel Meadows Resident Aide Department 16600 Danville Pike, Laurel Fork, VA 24352.
