Ilva Combs Vass, 84 of Fancy Gap, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows. Mrs. Vass was born in Carroll County to the late Demps & Lucy Cagle Combs. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Paul Vass; sister Lessie Leonard; and brother Wade Combs. She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law Shelby & Alvin Easter of Fancy Gap; son & daughter-in-law Jerry & Judy Vass of Hillsville; brothers & sister-in-law Marvin Combs and Verlon & Hazel Combs all of Cana; sisters Ima Newman of Winston Salem, NC, Elsie Jones of Winston Salem, NC, and Joyce King of Cana; four grandchildren Annette Lamberson, Deborah Mayo, Marty Easter, and Kris Vass; and nine great grandchildren Wesley Lamberson, Ian Lamberson, Alex Mayo, Abegail Mayo, Adam Mayo, Noah Easter, Asher Easter, Sadie Easter, and Gram Vass.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 17, 2009 at Skyview Baptist Church at 11:00 AM with Rev. Wendell Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the Webb-Skyview Cemetery. Mrs. Vass will lie in state at the church on Thursday, July 16, 2009 beginning at 4:30 PM and the family will receive friends at the church from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
