Ila Mae Spivey Largen, 98, of Dugspur and Galax, Virginia passed away early Sunday morning, April 7, 2024 at the Bedford County Nursing Home, Bedford, Virginia, surrounded by her niece and nephew, her primary caregivers, Linda Edwards and Jim Sikkema.
Born in Galax, Virginia on January 14, 1926 to James Fred and Mary Hall Spivey, Ila lived a life filled with love and devotion to her family and community. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Depree; her beloved son, Monty; and siblings, Iva Lee Spivey Melton, Alice Opal Spivey Edwards, Edith Geraldine Spivey Bullion, David J. Spivey, Arthur A. Spivey, and Guy B. Spivey. Ila is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, their spouses, and children all whom she cherished deeply.
A memorial service will be held at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville on May 25, 2024 at 2:00 PM with Mathew Schmidt and George Buchanan officiating, for Ila's close family and beloved church members at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Following the service, inurnment will take place at the Galax City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ila's honor to Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church at 46 Hunters Ridge Road, Dugspur, VA 24325
Ila will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering faith, her joy and the love she shared with those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of independence, strength, determination and compassion that will be cherished by all who knew her.
