Hubert "Eldon" Horton, 75, of Fancy Gap, VA, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 31, 1938 in Carroll County to the late Orville Anderson and Ada Mae Webb Horton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Arlene Melton Horton; Grandson, Darren Horton; Brothers: Estel Horton, Milton Horton and Alton Horton; and Sisters: Nellie Horton, B. Belle Horton and Iva Lou Horton. He was a loving Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Uncle. He was very active in helping his family, friends and neighbors. He helped with various construction projects at Skyview Baptist Church in Fancy Gap. He also volunteered with construction projects at Twin County Free Clinic in Galax. He was retired mechanist from Sprague Electric in Hillsville and Kingston Warren in Wytheville and was a active member of Skyview Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Sandra N. Horton of the home; daughter, L. Faye Horton Rakes; son and daughter in law, Gary W and Susan N Horton of Meadowview, VA ; sister, Ila Davis of Fancy Gap, step-son, Jamie Via of Rural Retreat; grandchildren, Chris and Jennifer Rakes of Galax, Ryan Rakes and Rachel Rakes of Fancy Gap, Laura and Audra Horton of Meadowview, VA; Great Grandsons, Tyler and Chanson Rakes of Galax, Ross and Mason Via of Rural Retreat and special nephew's family, Butch, Melody and Andrew Horton, adopted grandson of Fancy Gap. The celebration of life service will be held Monday, July 14, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Skyview Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary W. Horton, Rev. Joey Mabe and Rev. Harvey Carico officiating. Burial will follow in the Webb-Skyview Cemetery. The family will receive friends 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service. A special "Thank You" to Vaughn-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home for the arrangements, Mountain Valley Hospice staff, all the friends of the church and the community.
