July 28, 1943 – January 3, 2022
Howard Leslie Amoss, 78 of Hillsville, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022 at his home. Mr. Amoss was born in Baltimore, MD to the late Howard Lemuel Amoss and Clara Mae Tucker Amoss. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Emily Lucille Quesinberry Amoss, and daughter Leslie Gale Amoss Anders.
Surviving Family members include his beloved wife, Barbara Sue Sutphin Adkins Amoss, daughters, Lucy Amoss Nottingham and husband Mark, Tammy Smith and husband Craig, Sheila Watts and husband Danny, and Audrey Tucker and husband Todd, and son-in-law, Gabe Anders. Also surviving is Howard's sister, Elaine Amoss McClure and husband John. Howard has many nieces and nephews surviving.
Also surviving are grandchildren: Ainsley Nottingham, Gabe Anders, Angelica Anders, Christopher Bunker, Jennifer Whitmore and husband Allen, Jonathan Butcher and wife Heather, Haley Spell and husband Gavin, Jessi Watts, and Tedi Sue Johnson and husband Brandon.
Howard was proud of his great-grandchildren: Riley Whitmore, Sawyer Whitmore, Layla Butcher, Hudson Johnson, Hattie James Butcher, and Parker Johnson
Howard was proud to share stories and adventures with his longtime friend, Eddie Chitwood. The Amoss family will always appreciate all the love shared with Eddie and his whole family.
Howard was an active member, Sunday School teacher, and member of the Sky View Men's Quartet at Sky View Missionary Baptist Church, as well as a longtime member of The Gideons. Howard was passionate about sharing his faith and always loved sharing Jesus Christ with others - whether it be in the prison ministry, daily conversations, or through the FAITH Evangelism program. His wish for all would be to seek a personal relationship with Jesus.
Howard adored horses and riding. He raised Australian Shepherds for many years, and enjoyed farming.
Visitation and Service same day: Thursday, January 6 - visitation 10:00-11:00 service at 11:00. In consideration of weather and illness, the service will be streamed on Facebook live through Sky View Missionary Baptist Church where the service is being held.
Flowers are appreciated, but Howard would want the love of Christ shared through memorials. Memorials may be made to Gideon's International or Sky View Missionary Baptist Church. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
