Hilery S. Newman, 86 of Hillsville, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2007 at Waddell Nursing & Rehab Center. Mr. Newman was born in Wythe County, VA to the late Garnett & Annie Mae Duncan Newman. He served in the United States Army during WWII and was a POW during the war. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Delphia Newman; brothers Paul, Buford and Bolen Newman and a sister Beulah Hudson. He is survived by three sisters-in-law Ollie Newman of Austinville, Lucille Newman of Hillsville, and Helen Newman of Mt. Airy, NC; and three nieces Pauline Gross and Judy Hill both of Mt. Airy, NC and Kim Cloud of Fancy Gap.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2007 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. Harvey Carrico officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service.
