Hestel Dalton Simpkins, 93 of Indian Valley, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at her home. Mrs. Simpkins was born in Carroll County, Virginia to the late James S. and Inez Carpenter Dalton. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simpkins was preceded in death by her husband, Shaffer O. Simpkins; sons, David McDaniel and John Madison Simpkins; grandson, Mark B. Simpkins; five brothers and sisters; and five half brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her sons, Charles Simpkins and Lisa of Indian Valley and Thomas Simpkins and Sally of Hiwassee; sister, June Shockley of Hillsville; grandchildren, Charles Gabriel Simpkins, Vali Regina Priebe, Steven B. Smith, Thomas Shaffer Simpkins, Joshua Simpkins, Jonathan Simpkins, Nathan Simpkins, and Charles McDaniel; and great grandchildren, Austin White, Emma Simpkins and Sophia Simpkins.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 4:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Elder Tim McGrady officiating. Burial will follow in the Simpkins Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
