Herma Etta Hawks, 72, of Woodlawn, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center in Galax. Mrs. Hawks was born in Carroll County to the late Herman Andrew Hall and Scioto Ruth Sawyers. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband W. Clarence Hawks.

Mrs. Hawks is survived by her daughters & son-in-law Shelby & John Shaw of Galax and Diann Barnett of Cleveland, NC; son Charles R. Hawks of Cana; four brothers, two sisters; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; aunts, uncles and a host of foster children, as well as five special people, J.P. Goad of Woodlawn, Clayton & Ann Hall of High Pont, NC, Janet Combs of Fancy Gap and Edith Lowe of Fancy Gap.

She got the last laugh.

A graveside service with burial following will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the Bond Cemetery in Fancy Gap at 5:00 PM with Rev. Wendell Horton and Pastor Russell Payne officiating. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.
