Obituary

Helen Webb McGrady, of Hillsville, passed away November 18, 2015. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Harry, of 65 years; her parents, Clinton and Grace Blankenship Webb, and brothers, Clinton Webb, Jr. and Joseph P. Webb. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph H. and Anne A. McGrady; grandsons, Jonathan L. McGrady and wife Jennifer, and Chadwick P. McGrady, and four great-grandchildren, Molly, Jon, Sam and Alex.

Mrs. McGrady was born in Carroll County, Virginia, on April 10, 1922. She is a 1941 graduate of Hillsville High School and a 1944 graduate of Radford College, Woman's Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute (now Radford University) where she earned a degree in Education.

Mrs. McGrady taught Home Economics for 40 years which she thoroughly enjoyed and touched the lives of many of her students in Carroll County. She also owned and operated with her husband, Harry, a beef cattle farm for over fifty years. Mrs. McGrady enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family and friends. Mrs. McGrady was a member of the Hillsville Christian Church for over 70 years. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, Hillsville Women's Club, and was a fifty year member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Teaching Society and Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. McGrady was a longtime active member of the Carroll County Democratic Committee.

The family will receive friends at the Hillsville Christian Church on Sunday, November 22, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. officiated by the Reverend Debbie Ginder. Burial will follow at the John P. Webb Cemetery in Freemont.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the "Helen McGrady Scholarship Fund", 127 Mill Street, Hillsville, VA 24343, to be awarded to aspiring teachers graduating from Carroll County High School.

Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
