Hazel B. Horton, 91 of Hillsville, entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows nursing home, following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Hazel was well-loved in the community, and is best known for teaching at Hillsville Elementary School for 41 years. She was proud of her students and cared deeply for the children and staff that she worked with. She was a faithful member of Fairview Presbyterian Church where she was a ruling elder, Sunday school teacher, Youth Director, and active in the Presbyterian Women's group. Hazel adored her family and loved to cook for others. She was a kind and generous soul.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill Horton.

She is survived by her eldest daughter, Jean Nobblitt, of Hillsville and R.J. Nobblitt, of Orange, VA and their two children Phillip Nobblitt and wife Alissa and Emily Herndon and husband Josh. She is also survived by her daughter, Lisa Smith and husband Peter, of Eden, NC and their son, Jacob Smith and wife Stephanie. Great-grandchildren include Jackson Nobblitt, Jared Herndon, Stella Nobblitt, and William Smith. She had several nieces and nephews as well.

The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at Laurel Meadows for their excellent care.

The family will receive friends at Fairview Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at Fairview Presbyterian Church at 2:00 PM with Mr. Peter Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery.  A guestbook is available online by visiting www.vaughanguynnandmcgrady.com.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
