Rev. Harris R. Easter, 89 of Fancy Gap, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2007. Rev. Easter served as Pastor in several churches including the Closer Home Baptist Church in Mt. Airy and the Rock Hill Baptist Church in Level Cross. He served as Pastor of the Rome Missionary Baptist Church for two periods, one of which was for ten years, once at Tory Creek Missionary Church for one year following the death of the Pastor, and once at Independence Missionary Baptist church for six years. He was also well known throughout the area because of his service as a visiting minister at many local churches. Rev. Easter served in the U.S. Fifth Army with tours of duty in North Africa, Sicily, Corsica and Italy and attended the Veterans School. He farmed for over 30 years. Rev. Easter was preceded in death by his wife Iva Lea Sumner Easter whom he married on January 17, 1945. Survivors include a son Kenneth Dale Easter of Fancy Gap; daughter & son-in-law Glenda K. & Stanley Jones of Fancy Gap; brothers & sisters-in-law Cameron & Almagray Easter of Cana and Perry & Jean Easter of Winston Salem, NC; sisters Irene Clodfelter of Winston Salem, NC and Glenda Dalton of Hillsville; three grandchildren Joshua Edwards, Brandon Dale Edwards and Alicia Edwards and two great grandsons Logan Alexander Edwards and Caleb Macale Edwards.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Wendell Horton, Rev. David Sechrist, Rev. Dwight Sechrist, Rev. Joshua Edwards and Rev. Charles Smythers officiating. Burial will follow in the Webb-Skyview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service.
